How To Book a Stay

** Please ensure you have reviewed our Boarding Requirements prior to requesting your reservation **

What are your rates for overnight boarding?

Overnight Boarding rates are dependent on the length of stay, the suite time, the calendar time of stay, how many dogs you have, and how old they are. Other factors include whether or not your dog is spayed, vaccination status, check in/out times, etc. Each stay is unique, however, for most general bookings, the overnight rate is $59/per night, with a checkout prior to 10:00am. Here are our rates at a glance.

  • Single Guest (up to 9 nights) ………………………………………………………………. $59 per night
  • Single Guest (10 nights or more) …………………………………………………………. $54 per night

An extensive overview of our rates can be found on our Current Rates page.

What type of dogs do you accept?

We are a highly social facility and do not accept dangerous dogs.

  • Dogs must be well tempered and non-aggressive
  • Dogs must be friendly and social with other dogs, people and children
  • Dogs must have appropriate vaccines based on our requirements
  • Dogs must be healthy and free from any signs of communicable disease

If your dog shows aggression, dominant or guarding behavior towards other dogs or humans, barks constantly while staying in his/her suite, continually messes or damages his/her suite, or has any communicable disease, we will not be able to provide boarding services for your pet(s).

My pet is not spayed or neutered. Can they still stay at Tucked Inn?

We are happy to accommodate pups who are not spayed/neutered, provided their temperament and social skills match our requirements.

Males who continually ‘mark’ indoors may require the use of a Belly Band during their stay. We only use disposable absorbent bands and there is a charge of $5+HST/day.

Females who are within three weeks of estrus (heat) on either side are subject to an additional fee of $55+HST per night. Females who are in active heat MUST be booked into the Studio Suite with 24-hour supervision.

What vaccines does my dog need to have?

Please note that these requirements may differ from the recommended vaccination schedule from your veterinarian. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us!

RABIES

Due to regulations set forth by the Department of Health, our facility requires that each pet owner provide proof of vaccination for rabies. This vaccination must be up to date based on the duration stated on the vaccine label (eg. Imrab3 and Miral 3 is = 3 yr vaccine). Most rabies vaccines administered by veterinary clinics are 3 year vaccines unless stated on the label.

DHPP VACCINATION (DISTEMPER, HEPATITIS, PARVOVIRUS, PARAINFLUENZA)

We require proof that the dog has received at least ONE DHPP vaccination for the lifetime of the pet. We do not require that your pet is re-vaccinated annually. This vaccination is not required by law.

CANINE INFECTIOUS RESPIRATORY DISEASE COMPLEX (CIRDC, a.k.a. “Kennel Cough”)

It is common to use the term “kennel cough”, “infectious tracheobronchitis” and variations on “canine infectious respiratory disease complex” interchangeably. However, this is an overly simplistic view of a complicated syndrome. Disease is not limited to the trachea, nor does it always manifest as coughing. Clinical signs of canine infectious respiratory disease complex (CIRDC) may include sneezing, nasal and ocular discharge, and sometimes lower respiratory and/or systemic disease. Multiple bacterial and viral pathogens, acting both sequentially and synergistically, are associated with CIRDC. Canine infectious respiratory disease complex, almost by definition, is not a vaccine-preventable condition.

(source: School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Infectious Diseases, July 2015)

The most commonly administered vaccine against CIRDC is what most companion pet owners know as bordetella. We do NOT require the bordetella vaccine for your pet to stay. This vaccine is optional and we recommend that clients speak to their veterinarian and decide for themselves. If you choose to vaccinate against bordetella we REQUIRE it to be a minimum of TWO weeks prior to your pet’s stay. If it is close to the boarding stay we recommend not vaccinating. Being vaccinated with a bordetella product is not a guarantee that your pet will not contract CIRDC — much like receiving the flu shot does not guarantee you will not contract the flu.

World-renowned vaccination scientist, Dr. Ronald Schultz, says [emphasis is mine]: “Many animals receive “kennel cough” vaccines that include Bordetella and CPI and/or CAV-2 every 6 to 9 months without evidence that this frequency of vaccination is necessary or beneficial. In contrast, other dogs are never vaccinated for kennel cough and disease is not seen. CPI immunity lasts at least 3 years when given intranasally, and CAV -2 immunity lasts a minimum of 7 years parenterally for CAV-I. These two viruses in combination with Bordetella bronchiseptica are the agents most often associated with kennel cough, however, other factors play an important role in disease (e.g. stress, dust, humidity, molds, mycoplasma, etc.), thus kennel cough is not a vaccine preventable disease because of the complex factors associated with this disease. Furthermore, this is often a mild to moderate self limiting disease. I refer to it as the ‘Canine Cold.’”

Monahan Jordan, P. (2012 July 21) Bordetella: Does Your Dog Need the Kennel Cough Vaccine? Retrieved from http://www.truth4pets.org

PUPPIES

We welcome most puppies of all ages, however, we do require that they have received at least one round of core vaccines (DHPP) prior to boarding. We do not require puppies under 6 months of age to have received a Rabies vaccine. We may require a fecal test completed at the veterinarian showing negative for parasites for puppies or newly acquired (1 month or less) dogs.

Please contact us if your puppy is less than 14 weeks of age or has not been vaccinated after 12 weeks of age for distemper and parvovirus.

NON-VACCINATED PETS

In the event that your pet cannot be vaccinated due to a reaction or due to health concerns which prohibit being vaccinated safely (vaccine manufacturers recommend only vaccinating healthy animals), we are still able to provide your pet with boarding arrangements. We may ask that you provide a health clearance from your veterinarian stating why your pet cannot receive vaccinations and to confirm that your dog does not appear to have any communicable ailments within one (1) week boarding your pet at our facility.

VACCINATION ALTERNATIVES

In the event that your pet cannot be vaccinated, yet you are concerned about the potential for your pet to contract a communicable disease, we recommend that you consult with your veterinarian regarding blood titers. This form of testing involves blood tests which are performed to check your pets level of immunity for specific ailments. This is an acceptable alternative for those who are hesitant to have their pets vaccinated due to past reactions or are concerned with over-vaccination. Please note that these tests are still not mainstream, not all vets provide them, and they do take time to perform and obtain results. We will accept a copy of titre test results in lieu of vaccination records.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT VACCINATIONS!!

WE REQUIRE A MINIMUM OF TWO (2) WEEKS TIME LAPSE BETWEEN VACCINATIONS AND BOARDING WITH US. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Your pets immune system may be in a compromised state immediately following vaccinations and they are vulnerable to communicable diseases. Additionally, modified live vaccines can be shed from your dog for up to two weeks following vaccination, and that could place other guests in a compromising position if they are sensitive to the vaccine.

If you do not vaccinate your pet, please contact us to discuss further. Just because you do not choose to vaccinate, does not mean your pet isn’t welcome at Tucked Inn Kennels!!

Do you board puppies?

Yes! … We accept puppies from 8 weeks of age. Please refer to the section on vaccine requirements for puppies. Puppies under the age of 8 months are subject to an additional $29+HST/night fee. Our Puppy Care Package includes extra visits outside for bathroom breaks, complimentary pee pads, additional suite cleaning, laundry service, continuing with basic training, appropriate socialization, and extended care and cuddles.

We also highly recommend that puppies are crate trained, and if you haven’t done so, this is a great time to crate train your dog!

Does my dog need to be crate trained?

Although is it always a great idea to crate train your dog (not just for boarding, but for grooming, veterinarian visits, travel, etc.), we do not require your pup to be fully crate trained. Our suites are designed like miniature bedrooms and generally are accepted by dogs who stay with us. If you dog chews or extensively damages their suite, we may need to use a crate (fee applies) within their suite for safety. If they do not adjust to the suite or a crate, they may not be permitted to stay in future.

Dogs who ARE crate trained are welcome to bring their crates to use during their stay, or we have crates available for rent ($5/night).

Do you need to meet my dog before staying?

If your pup is social (both human and dog friendly), and your expected stay is less than 5 nights, we generally do not need to meet them beforehand. If you wish to book a first time stay of 5 nights or more, then we REQUIRE a trial stay before booking the longer stay. This can be one night of your choosing (where available), and standard overnight rates apply.

Do you offer boarding during holidays? (Christmas, March Break, etc.)

Yes, we provide boarding on a limited basis during holiday periods. We only accept dogs during Christmas/New Year and March Break who have stayed with us previously. A trial night stay is required for all new clients prior to booking. For all holiday stays, including long weekends, there are minimum requirements, as well as holiday rates. We do provide multi-dog discounts, and puppy fees do apply.

Drop In Visits on long weekends are subject to availability only. Tucked Inn is a small facility and very much unlike a traditional, commercial dog boarding kennel. We provide a unique environment where we are very hands on with our guests, and we are very close with our human clients as well! We work extremely hard to ensure the continued safety of our furry guests, and in order to accomplish this, our days are structured carefully, and in advance. We have scheduled (and very much needed!) nap times, and we do our best to schedule check ins and outs around this period. This minimizes the stress on our guests, and allows them to be the best dogs they can be while in our care.

Also, by scheduling check in and out times, we always know, within a small time window, when dogs are checking in and out — that way, we can be best prepared for your arrival or departure by ensuring all of our guests are either secured in their suite, or outside in the courtyard with the reception door closed. Having clients arrive unexpectedly can be difficult as there are often dogs sleeping/lounging/resting inside the building. We kindly ask for your cooperation by ensuring that you adhere to your scheduled times.

For detailed information, and to help with scheduling your appointment times, please visit Check In / Check Out Times.

Can I visit Tucked Inn before booking a stay?

Yes! We encourage visitors to our facility! It’s always a good idea to check out any place where you will be leaving your pup for any length of time. We try to schedule our Meet & Greet Appointments during slower periods to minimize disruptions to our current guests, and to keep stress on your dog(s) to a minimum.

Meet & Greet appointments must be scheduled in advance, and usually last about 20-30 minutes. This gives you an opportunity to meet with us, tour our facility, find out how we work, ask any questions, and check out the suites where your pup will be staying. And, yes, your dogs are invited too!! … We do, however, kindly request that small children stay behind during this critical meeting. This is the first time your pup will be exposed to us and our facility, and having children can often set them on the defensive, especially if they are protective of your kids.

Our M&Gs are scheduled between 10:00am – 12:30pm and 4:00pm – 5:00pm Monday thru Friday, and 10:30am – 12:30pm on weekends.

What’s Included in the stay?

All packages include luxury overnight boarding in a private suite (Deluxe, Premium, or Studio, depending on dog needs, size requirements, number of guests, etc.), plenty of supervised indoor and outdoor playtime, nap time, movie time, socialization (where appropriate), and exceptional care.

All stays include up until 10:00am on departure date. Late checkout (Stay & Play) is available for late check out at $39+HST per guest.

Do I need to provide a deposit?

Yes, all stays, including Drop In (Daycare) visits require a deposit outlined below.

One to two night stays – Full balance, non-refundable (as per cancellation policy), payable upon booking.

Three to five night stays – 50% deposit.

Six nights or more – 25% deposit.

Drop In Visits – Full balance payable upon booking. No refund upon cancellation.

All deposits MUST be received before the booking is considered confirmed. All reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis, and if your deposit is not received, you will risk losing the reservation.

To confirm your reservation, we will require a non-refundable deposit/payment via either Interac e-Transfer or Credit Card (over the phone) depending on the length of the stay.

Click for detailed information on Deposits and Cancellations.

Once we receive your deposit/payment, your reservation will be considered confirmed. Within 24 hours of receipt, we will forward you a confirmation with all of the details of the stay, as well as information to help prepare for your pup’s time with us.

What if I need to cancel my booking?

  • At the time of booking, a non-refundable deposit (amount determined at booking) will be required to hold a reservation for drop-in visit or overnight stay for your pup(s).
  • A confirmation email will be sent to the email address provided within 48 hours of the deposit being received, at which point the reservation will be considered confirmed.
  • Once a reservation has been confirmed, any cancellation received more than 21 days prior to arrival will be processed at no charge and the deposit will be applied to a future booking within six (6) months of the original arrival date. Additional date changes will be subject to a $50 rebooking fee. If the deposit remains unused after six (6) months, it will be forfeited.
  • Any cancellations received less than 21 days prior to arrival will result in forfeiture of the entire deposit. Failure to show up for a reservation, arriving a day late or leaving a day early will also result in forfeiture of the entire deposit.
  • Grooming services are booked in advance and reserved with our exclusive grooming partner. Cancelled reservations, or any changes or cancellations to grooming appointments received less than 24 hours prior to the appointment start time will result in the full charge for the treatment.

We wish for anyone booking a stay with us to understand that there are a number of things that happen when you reserve a suite for your pup. We schedule our days and staff depending on the number of dogs expected, as well as the number of check in and check outs we have in a day. We may have had to turn away a booking to accommodate yours (which, as much I do not like to do, it does happen on occasion.) And, even when we are not fully booked, cancellations affect our daily operation.

Having said all of that, we are compassionate humans who value our relationships with our clients, and understand that plans change, life happens, and sometimes we need to make exceptions to these.

For more information on deposits and cancellations, please visit our website.
