Daycare

Tucked Inn Kennels offer a boutique dog daycare environment for our guest pups. Each day is filled with fun, outdoor and indoor exercise, and plenty of one on one attention. Bring your pup for a fun-filled day and have them return home in the early evening, happy and tired. We also offer shuttle service to and from our location, basic grooming services, and private leashed walks for a fee.

Our pets are members of our family, and are experiencing “new normals” during the pandemic, just as their owners are. So many of us have been at home with our pets more than ever before. Spending most of our time together can increase the human-animal bond and deepen our relationship with our pets

One downfall to spending all this time with our pets, is that as we return to work and life outside the home after this period of constant connection, our pets may be at risk for developing separation distress or anxiety. This is especially prevalent in our younger pups who many have been acquired during the pandemic, and have never spent time away from their family members.

Separation distress, or separation anxiety, means the pet experiences a feeling of anxiety or even panic when they are separated from preferred people. The signs most commonly associated with this disorder include vocalizing, salivation, destructive behavior especially at exits like doors and windows, urination or defecation indoors/in unwanted locations, lack of appetite when alone, self-trauma like licking or chewing when alone, and attempted or successful escapes.

In severe cases, pets may even break through fences or windows, chew through walls or doors, and engage in other dangerous behavior when they are feeling panic. Often, the signs of anxiety such as pacing, panting, jumping up on the owner or attention-seeking, avoiding confinement areas, or trying to escape begin when the owner first starts preparing to leave home (brushing teeth, picking up keys, lacing up shoes, etc.).

Inevitably, we have already witnessed signs of separation distress/anxiety with many of our new (and returning!) guest pups. In an effort to help reduce the severity of the symptoms for our Tucked Inn Family, we have expanded our Drop In Visit service to include our new “Play Place” program.

Pups in our Play Place program will have an opportunity to be away from their humans for the day, in a safe and supervised setting, where we can monitor your pup for signs and behaviours of separation anxiety. It will also also give them an opportunity to experience play with other dogs, meeting new people, and release a ton of energy!

Some answers to common questions …

What will my dog do at daycare?

Each dog is as unique as the people who raise them. We base our daily activities on your dog’s personal preferences, suited to their individual personality. Outdoor play with other dogs, indoor rest periods, either in their private, dedicated suite, or relaxing on the couch with some Netflix, and plenty of human interaction will ensure that your dog experiences a full day burning off their energy, both physically and mentally. And, if you have been working with your pup on their obedience skills, we will help them practice their sit, stay and recall skills!

What about puppies?

Puppies? Did someone say puppies? … we LOVE puppies! We welcome pups of all ages, as long as they have received their core vaccinations. We do introduce puppies to other young and old, large and small breeds, in an effort to socialize them for future success.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. Reservations are required for all Play Place visits. We prefer to have a dog to human ratio that allows us to give individual attention to each our of guests. If you do need to bring your pup on short notice, please give us a call as we still may be able to accommodate.

Can you pick up / drop off my dog?

Absolutely! We’re pleased to be able to provide shuttle service for an additional fee. Give us a call or email to talk about this further as shuttle services are unique to each situation for our Play Place program.

How do I pay?

Once you have confirmed which package you would like to purchase, we will email an invoice to you. Invoices can be paid via Interac e-transfer (preferred), or we can contact you for credit card information over the phone. If you plan on having your dog attend regularly, we suggest purchasing on of our discounted prepaid packages. If you would prefer to go on a day to day basis, we will invoice you on the morning of arrival, and payment is due prior to picking up your pup.

What if I need to cancel?

Once you have booked your reservation, cancellations received less than 24 hours in advance will result in a full charge for the day. Cancellations for pre-paid visits, that received more than 24 hours in advance, may be transferred to a future day.

* Packages expire after 90 days.
* All prices are subject to HST.
